Rita Ann Urbaniak Obituary (1925 - 2018)

Rita A. Alexandrowicz Urbaniak, age 93, of Erie, passed away at UPMC Hamot on Tuesday, October 2, 2018. She was born in Erie on June 3, 1925, daughter of the late Andrew and Helen (Gorgon) Alexandrowicz. Rita was a 1943 graduate of the former Academy High School. She was employed for a short time by the Veterans Administration in Erie prior to joining her late husband in the operation of the family business, Urbaniak Bros. Quality Meats, located at 24th and German Streets. Rita was a tireless supporter of her husband and sons at the market and was beloved by many of the regular customers. For many years, Rita was an active member of Mount Calvary Roman Catholic Church where she had served as a Eucharistic Minister. In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Chester D. Urbaniak, who passed away on February 29, 2016; one brother, Eugene Alexandrowicz and one sister, Clementine Zukowski. Survivors include her four children: Rebecca U. Stanton (Dan) of Washington, D.C., Gerald T. Urbaniak (Dinah), Laura J. Slurkanich (Gary) and Andrew C. Urbaniak (Laurie) all of Erie; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call at the Dusckas-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 5151 Buffalo Rd. (at Hannon Rd. in Harborcreek Twp.), on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a prayer service there on Monday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Mount Calvary R.C. Church at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow at Mary, Queen of Peace Mausoleum.
