Paul "DeeDee" Joseph Moneta, Jr. Obituary (1948 - 2023)

Paul "DeeDee" Joseph Moneta, Jr. peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at his home in Harborcreek, PA, at the age of 74. Paul "DeeDee" was born on June 28, 1948, in Saint Marys, PA to Paul "Plumber" and Helen (Francis) Moneta. Paul was a 1966 graduate of Johnsonburg High School and a 1971 graduate of Edinboro University. He earned his Master's Degree at Gannon University. Paul was a Social Studies teacher and athletic coach for the Harbor Creek School District for 35 years, retiring in 2005. Paul enjoyed the time he spent with the Harborcreek community - active in many youth and high school sports programs. Throughout his life he could be found officiating little gridders football games, filming football games for the high school, keeping statistics for Huskies baseball, and scouting for the varsity basketball and football teams. He also enjoyed running the clock for sporting events and re-stringing baseball gloves that were dropped off at the house. Paul loved hunting, fishing, listening to 50s and 60s music, landscaping, and of course, his life blood - COFFEE! He was an avid Steelers and Pirates follower and as everyone knew, a great fan of the late Roberto Clemente - #21. Paul is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 53 years, Maryjo (Clerkin) Moneta; his sons: Paul Edward Moneta (Cheryl Montefiori), Scott Anthony Moneta, and Roberto Clemente Moneta; his sisters: Paula Wester (Nolan) and Cindy Moneta; his grandchildren: Ryley Joseph Moneta, Timothy Gage Moneta, and Violet Inez Moneta. He was loved by many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A private ceremony for the family will be handled by Dusckas-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Interment will be at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Johnsonburg, PA at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any of the following organizations that Paul enjoyed during his lifetime: Harbor Creek Varsity Wrestling Club - 3335 Saltsman Rd, Erie, PA 16510, Harbor Creek Little League - 5301 Windcrest Dr, Erie, PA 16510, or Harborcreek Little Gridders - 638 Eldred St, Erie, PA 16511.
