Nancy A. Castano

Nancy A. Castano, age 80, of Harborcreek, passed away Monday, November 7, 2016 following a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born in Erie, on June 27, 1936, daughter of the late Clyde and Bernice Henderson Brown.

Nancy was very passionate about working at Mount St. Benedict Monastery where she cooked for the Sisters. She loved baking and cooking for so many people in the community, too numerous to count. She enjoyed going to the casino and playing Scrabble. Nancy had a huge sweet tooth; whether it was Stefanelli's sponge candy or coffee flavored ice cream, she loved it. Nancy had a generous heart. She was always the first person to lend a hand, give a smile, or warm hug.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Martin McAtee; three children, Cheryl Castano, David Castano (Lisa), and Denise Gajewski (Jerry); sister, Joanne Puzarowski; brother, John Brown (Joyce); six grandchildren, Michael Straub, Josh and Simeon Castano, Julia DeSarro (Tony), Abby and Molly Gajewski; two great-grandchildren, Killian and Jessie; Marty's children, Marty Jr., June, Greg, Cheryl, Joni, Terry, Dan and Doug and their families. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dominick Castano, Jr.; son, Mickey Castano, III; two sisters, Dolores Lindemuth and Pearl Fuller; and three brothers, Charlie, Clyde, and Cliff Brown.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Wednesday from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. Further visitation will be held at Mount St. Benedict Monastery, 6101 East Lake Road, on Thursday from 9:30 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am. Interment, Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
