Mary Ellen Faycheck Shields

Mary Ellen Faycheck Shields, age 88 of Medina, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Friday, February 23, 2024 in Medina. She was born in Erie on January 28, 1936, daughter of Emmet and Josephine (nee Kraus) Faycheck.

Mary Ellen grew up in Harborcreek, married Robert Shields, raised her family in Ohio, lived for over 35 years in Overland Park, KS, and lived the last 12 years in Brunswick and Medina. In her professional career, Mary Ellen worked in various administrative positions in business and real estate offices. She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority in Ohio and Kansas, and in the Spirit Movers social group of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Overland Park, KS. Mary Ellen has been a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Parish in Brunswick, OH for the past 12 years. She was a feisty, fun woman who was a meticulous record keeper. She enjoyed great old movies, music and dancing, and taught her family how to live with her sense of humor, strength, hard work, courage and love.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her brothers Edward, Emmett and John. Mary Ellen's memory will be cherished and her loss mourned by two sons, Gary (Jacqueline) and David Shields; daughter, Christine Graves (Dean); granddaughters, Jennifer Oehler (Tad), Allison Johns (Chad), Shannon Cherry (Nathan), Noelle and Lily Shields; great-granddaughters, Isabelle and Lark Oehler, Adie and Kenzie Cherry; great-grandsons, Gavin and Benjamin Johns, Eli and Miles Cherry; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Saturday, July 27th, from 9 am until the time of the Memorial Service at 11 am. Interment will follow at St. Gregory Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial contributions to The Film Foundation, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, a local mental health services organization or a charity of your choosing.
