Mary Joan Hedlund

Mary Joan Hennigan Hedlund, age 88, of Harborcreek, passed away Friday, April 24, 2026. She was born in Kane, PA on July 31, 1937, daughter of the late Kathryn Bernadette Jordan Hennigan and Maurice John Hennigan.

Mary lived and went to school in Hazel Hurst, PA, graduating in 1955. She married her husband, Ronald R. Hedlund at St. Edmund’s R.C. Church in Hazel Hurst on June 30, 1956. They lived in Mt. Jewett, PA until moving to Harborcreek in 1967. They joined St. James R.C. Church and at one time were Eucharistic Ministers until Joan had to resign due to tremors.

Mary was “Mom” taking care of her six sons, Ronald Joseph Hedlund (Robin), James Lawrence Hedlund (Sharon), Mark Edward Hedlund (Susan), Jeffry Paul Hedlund, the late Daniel Jordan Hedlund and Rodney John Hedlund (Holly), and her husband, Ron. She loved her time with the family, camping at Kinzua Dam, watching them water skiing, swimming and fishing. Just skiing in Lake Erie was fun! Vacations in Florida, Disney Land, etc, and fishing in Canada. Mary was there for whatever sports the boys were interested.

In later years, she and her husband enjoyed many wonderful trips to Ireland, England, Spain, Alaska, Australia and Hawaii, but she was always calling home and loved getting back home. Mary also knew how very lucky she was that all her sons and their families lived here. She loved having her grandchildren and great-grandchildren near. Mary loved her Irish music and she and her husband were members of the Irish Cultural Society.

Mary is further survived by her sister, Kathryn Bernadette Aldridge of Henrietta, NY; and “adopted sister”, Carol Malone. She was the loving grandmother of Cory Hedlund, Amber Hedlund, Jill Parker, Julie Seidler, Mark Hedlund Jr., Mallory Bottoni, Megan Hedlund, Daniel Hedlund, Jessica Hedlund and Jane Hedlund; great-grandmother of Hannah Deutsch, Zachary Jackula, Michael Jackula, Cael Hedlund, Jordyn Seidler, Kaitlyn Seidler, Oliver Bottoni and Madelyn Bottoni; great-great-grandmother of Kacey Jackula, Jackson Jackula, Asher Jackula, Braelyn Deutsch, Ella Deutsch, Tanner Deutsch, Brianna and Ethan Parker; aunt of Tammie Hannon, Tim Hedlund, Tania Hedlund, Todd Haight, Tadd Haight, Zachary Aldridge, Morgan Aldridge, Mary Pleaskis, Donald “DJ” Kendzior and David Kendzior; sister-in-law of Jack Hedlund and Judy Haight; and godmother of Zachary Aldridge and David Kendzior. She is also survived by several great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and son, Daniel, Mary was preceded in death by one sister, Rosella Kendzior; one brother, Jim Hennigan; mother-in-law, Freda Hedlund; brothers-in-law, Mike Aldridge and Donald Kendzior; and sister-in-law, Linda Hedlund.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral & Cremation Services Harborcreek, 5151 Buffalo Road (at Hannon Rd. in Harborcreek Twp.) on Tuesday, April 28th, from 10 am until the time of the Funeral Service there at 1 pm.
