Marilyn L. Wolf Sommer

–

Erie, PA

Marilyn L. Wolf Sommers, age 89, of Erie, born in Erie on November 30, 1934, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024, at Forest View Nursing Center. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Emelia Sopp and Edwin Wolf; her sister, Arlene Wolf; and her husband, James Ronald Sommers.

Marilyn was a graduate of Academy High School and Erie Business College. From an early age, Marilyn's greatest desire was to become a nurse and care for those in need. Due to health concerns, she could not minister as a nurse. Marilyn was immensely proud of her work at Doctors Osteopathic Hospital/Metro Hospital as the Medical Records Administrator and then at Shriner's Hospital for Children, in charge of Quality Assurance. She had a keen eye for detail and a strong work ethic. Marilyn demanded much from those who worked with her, but she also demanded that and more from herself.

Her love for her work was third to her love for God and love for her family. Marilyn loved children very much and babysat her relatives' children whenever possible. Although Marilyn and Ron did not have children of their own, they welcomed several "fur babies" into their home, including Jody, Buffy, and most recently Casey.

Marilyn and Ron married in 1978; they were meant to be together as they loved each other deeply. Marilyn really missed Ron since his passing in January 2023. We know they are both happy to be together with The Lord.

Marilyn was a life-long member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Until a few years ago, Marilyn still gathered with her childhood girlfriends from church.

Marilyn is survived by many cousins, relatives, and friends.

Many thanks to the employees and staff at Springhill and Forest View for their kindness and love toward both Marilyn and Ron, most especially these past several years.

Friends may call at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2216 Peach Street, on Friday, March 8th from noon until the time of the Funeral Service there at 1 pm. Interment of Marilyn's cremains will take place at Erie Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by the Dusckas Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. Memorials may be made to the Employee Recognition Fund at Springhill/Forestview or to Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church.
