LeMoyne Richard Nelson Obituary (1937 - 2016)

LeMoyne R. "Lee" Nelson, age 79, of Harborcreek, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Lee is survived by his loving wife, Lois (Potts) Nelson; his son, Wayde Nelson; his granddaughter, Rebecca Nelson and his sister, Delores (Nelson) Barry. Lee is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Elizabeth (Keider) Nelson. Lee was born on July 1, 1937 at Hamot Hospital and lived in Erie with his parents until 1955 when he graduated from Strong Vincent High School. He immediately joined the U.S. Air Force after graduation, in which he rose to the rank of Airman First Class over 10.5 years of service. In 1958, he and his sweetheart, Lois, were married in Ripley, NY. They lived at bases in Youngstown, OH, Mt. Clemons, MI, Fukioku, Japan and Bangor, ME. In the Air Force, Lee studied electronics and served as an electronic technician repairing radar for the planes. After his Honorable Discharge in 1964, they settle in Beaverdam, PA. Out of the Air Force, Lee started his civilian career as an electrical technician with Elgin Electronics in Waterford, PA, and after three years, started with GE in Erie, PA, from where he retired 26 years later. His career with GE included positions of electronic test technician, test supervisor, quality inspector, and process engineer. In 1983, he graduated from Gannon University at age 56 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Along in his career, he continued his education and training by becoming a Certified as a Quality Inspector and Mechanical Inspector. Lee was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor and will be missed by all. Private services will be conducted at the convenience of the family.
