Lawrence Allen “Larry”, “Butch” Morton Obituary (1944 - 2024)

Lawrence Allen "Larry", "Butch" Morton, age 80, of Harborcreek, passed away at home on Sunday, August 4, 2024, with his loving wife, Elna by his side. He was born in Erie on July 10, 1944, son of the late Oscar Allen and Ruby Mae "Sally" (Rodland) Morton. Larry graduated from Harbor Creek High School in 1962, then served for 4 years in the United States Air Force. While stationed at the Air Force base in Sweetwater, Texas in 1964, he met Elna. They were married there on June 17, 1967. Larry worked for Scobell Company, Inc. from January 1967 until his retirement as a Journeyman Steamfitter in February 2006. He was a member of the Steamfitters Union (now United 449) from 1967 to present. Larry was one of the smartest people. He could fix almost everything. He would say that if it worked before, he could make it work again. Larry was an avid fisherman. He built his own smokehouse and often smoked turkeys as gifts for Christmas alongside Elna's homemade bread and jam. Larry pioneered the concept of "rescue" dog. There was always a place in his home for a wayward animal. Larry was good at his work, almost to a fault. He never said no when someone needed his help, even in the middle of the night during a cold Erie winter. Larry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elna C. (Evans) Morton; two daughters: Julia Mueller (Keith) and Martha Brady (Trevor); one granddaughter, Sara Mae Mueller; and three siblings: Leonard (Donna) Rodland, Ken (Norma) Morton, and John (Geralyn) Morton. Larry is also survived by niece, Laurie (Stephen); and nephews: Michael (Karen), Scott (LeAnne), Donny (Laurie), Joshua (Meghan), Shane (Jade), Lucas (Kelsey), Seth (Norah) In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Marshall (J.B.). The family would like to thank the North East Community Nursing Services for their excellent and tender care for Larry. (at Hannon Rd.) on Wednesday, August 14th from 4 PM until the time of the service there at 6:30 PM, to be conducted by Reverend Keith McGarvey.
