Kathleen "Nina" Bigley Obituary (1941 - 2015)

Kathleen M. "Nina" Moorhead Bigley died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loving family at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh on Wednesday, April 23, 2015 following a short illness. She was born in Erie on September 15, 1941 and is predeceased by her parents, Frank and Millie Ekstrom Moorhead. Nina graduated from the former Lawrence Park High School and was a lifelong resident who truly loved the people and the community of Lawrence Park. You could often find her sitting on her back patio where family, friends and neighbors gathered to enjoy her vibrant personality and incredible wit. On August 5, 1977, she married Roger Bigley, whom she met in kindergarten, and he survives. She is also survived by sons: Michael and Matthew Sandell (Jessica Lybrook); daughter, Tracey Sandell; stepsons: Scott (Margaret) and Tony Bigley; ten grandchildren: Shannon Harriger, Jacob Sandell and Roger, Amelia, Clair, Michael, Corrine, James, Zohie and Logan Bigley all of Erie. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Joanna Samson of Meadville; brothers: James Moorhead (Peggy) of Burke's Garden, VA, David Moorhead (Nancy) of Greensboro, NC and Frank Moorhead (June) of Myrtle Beach, SC; sisters-in-law: Susan Moorhead of Atmore, AL, Joanne Evans (Joe Yates) of Lawrence Park and Kathy Ricker (Dick) of Harborcreek; brother-in-law, Paul Bigley (Elineta) of San Bernardino, CA and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Nina was a lifelong resident of Lawrence Park who loved walking her beloved dog, Bonz, watching sports, playing the lottery, going to the casino and hosting family gatherings. She and Roger enjoyed travelling and visiting family across the country and spending time with their grandchildren. Her generous nature and extraordinary sense of humor will be truly missed. In addition to her parents, Nina was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Moorhead and her first husband and lifelong friend, Jerry Sandell. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dusckas-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 5151 Buffalo Rd. (at Hannon Rd. in Harborcreek Twp.). The funeral service will be conducted there on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
