Joseph P. Sell Jr

Joseph P. Sell, Jr., age 81, of Harborcreek, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022. He was born in Erie on June 13, 1940, son of the late Joseph P. Sr. and Mildred Sell.

Joe was a 1958 graduate of Harbor Creek High School. He then served in the US Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Joe was a well-known photographer in Wesleyville and was proud of helping many couples celebrate their weddings with memories of photographs. He had a strong interest in astronomy and gave lectures at Penn State Behrend, where they awarded him with an Honorary Doctorate Degree. Joe also wrote astronomy articles for the Erie Newspaper and was a member of the M31 Club (Astronomy). He did maintenance throughout the city of Erie, including Hammermill and Lovell Place. Many of his hobbies included bicycling, scuba diving, kayaking, and especially photography. Joe loved anything to do with nature and treasured time spent with his family.

Joe is survived by two sons, Joseph P. Sell III (Cynthia), and Jason W. Sell; one brother, George Sell (Geraldine); one sister, Marlene Pirrello; three grandchildren, Joseph IV, Patrick and Olivia Sell; and nieces, nephews and other extended family who were important to him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia A. Sell.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm and are invited to attend a Funeral Service there on Thursday at 10 am conducted by Rev. David Roach. Interment will follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by the American Legion Carl Neff Post 571.
