Joseph J. “Joey” Askins Obituary (1966 - 2022)

Joseph J. "Joey" Askins, age 56, of Harborcreek, passed away peacefully, in the company of his family, at St. Vincent Hospital, on Monday, September 19, 2022, following a brief illness. He was born in Erie on September 11, 1966, to his mother, Linda M. (Dunlap) Askins of Cambridge Springs and his father and best friend, George R. Askins (and his wife, Debbie) of Harborcreek. Joey was a 1985 graduate of Cambridge Springs High School. He truly enjoyed his life to the fullest, and his family and friends alike felt blessed to be a part of it. At no time was his zest for life more evident than when he was at the center of family gatherings and holidays. He had an unrivaled ability to make everyone around him laugh with his vibrant and unforgettable sense of humor. Joey was also a deeply spiritual man that knew the importance of having a faith during his earthly journey. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him, especially his family who cherished him. In addition to his parents, Joey is survived by three sisters: Kathy Andree, Christina Askins, and Remilee Taylor and her husband, James; two nieces, Michelle Shouey and her husband, Shane and Kara Taylor; two nephews, Tyler and Christopher Andree; three great-nieces: Ava, Macey, and Sophia; and one great-nephew, Judah. Joey's family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the incredible, loving, and compassionate care extended to him by the entire team of doctors and nurses at St. Vincent Hospital ICU. Family and friends are warmly invited to call at the Dusckas-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 5151 Buffalo Rd. (at Hannon Rd. in Harborcreek Twp.), on Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. and are invited to attend a Memorial Service there on Friday at 11:30 a.m. Following the service, friends are invited to join the family for a luncheon at 12:30 p.m. at the East Erie Moose Lodge, 6060 Iroquois Ave., Harborcreek. Joey will be laid to rest privately at Venango Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Erie City Mission, 1017 French St., Erie, PA 16501.
