John Strimple Dusckas, age 65, of Millcreek, passed quietly and peacefully into the arms of his Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, while holding the hand of his cousin, Nancy. He was born in Erie on May 21, 1953, and had a deep and abiding faith that was instilled in him by his parents, the late Dr. James and Sophia Dusckas.
John was a 1971 graduate of McDowell High and attended Baldwin-Wallace College, University of Missouri and Gannon University. In 1986, he started working with his Uncle Gus Dusckas and proudly maintained the facility of Dusckas Funeral Home on West 10th Street until shortly before his death.
As a youngster, John was energetic and creative, and thoroughly enjoyed his unique position as "the baby" in the family! He was passionate about his dog Reb, was an amazing swimmer and spent many hours entertaining his family as an amateur magician. He was also a ham operator and enjoyed photography. He loved the Boy Scouts and all that it offered, including a coveted week at Philmont Scout Ranch. Through discipline and dedication, he earned his Eagle Scout award. John matured into a quiet, gentle man with a subdued sense of humor and a twinkle in his eye.
John is survived by two sisters, Katherine (Douglas) Spencer of Oakley, KS, and Barbara Dusckas of Estero, FL; his nephews, Jim and Traci Spencer of Wichita, KS, and their children, Anna, Corwin, David, Daniel, Elias and Elena; Stephen and Madeline Spencer of Lawrence, KS; and Paul and Erica Spencer of Surprise, AZ, and their children, Aaliyah, Alyxandria, and Bella. He is further survived by his uncle, Dr. George Dusckas, and his children, Annie Haller, Karen Martin, George Dusckas and Sally Capotis; cousins John Constantikes, Connie Dusckas, Nancy Dusckas, and Sophia Constantikes Guidi, his mother's cousin.
Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., 536 West 10th Street, on Friday from 5 to 7 pm. Further visitation will be held at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 4376 West Lake Road, on Saturday from noon until the time of the Funeral Service there at 1 pm, conducted by Rev. Theofanis Nacopoulos. Interment will follow at Cambridge Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be designated to the ANNA Shelter, 1555 East 10th Street, Erie, PA 16511.
