Jean Ann Maurer Tauber

–

Erie, PA

Jean Ann Maurer Tauber, age 68, of Harborcreek Twp., passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023. She was born in Erie on November 1, 1954, the daughter of the late William and June (Schneider) Maurer.
Jean earned her undergraduate degree from Edinboro University and went on to earn a master's degree in library science from the University of Buffalo. Her lifelong love of reading, learning, and books led her to her first job at the former Hammermill Paper Co., where she worked in the company information library. From there, Jean furthered her career when she became employed by Hamot Hospital as director of the library department. She enjoyed a lengthy career in healthcare working at St. Vincent Hospital, Shriner's Hospital for Children, and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
In addition to her employment with local hospitals, she was employed by the Erie County Library System where she helped manage the transition from the old library at Perry Square to the new Blasco Memorial Library on the Bayfront. Eventually life lead Jean back to healthcare where her primary focus and passion was hospital administration; a passion which led her to be published on related topics, taught public health at Mercyhurst University, and earned her a membership in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Jean was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant where she also served as elder and trustee. In addition to her love of reading, she also enjoyed travelling and boating on weekends with her family. She will be long remembered as a woman of faith and integrity who loved her family deeply and always strove to treat people with sincerity and compassion.
Jean is lovingly survived by her husband of 40 years, Robert Tauber, and her beloved son, Bill Tauber.
Family and friends are warmly invited to call at the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, 250 West 7th Street, Erie, PA 16501, on Saturday, August 26th, from 10 AM until the time of the service in the sanctuary at 11 AM, followed by a reception in the parlor.
