James L. Zewe

James L. Zewe, age 74, of Erie, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. Jim courageously battled and overcame cancer, a testament to his strength and determination and love for his family. He later passed away from unrelated health complications at Select Specialty Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Schwabenbauer Zewe; his sons, James (Jennifer) of Apex, NC, and Matthew (Brandie) of Charlotte, NC; and his daughter, Amanda McKnight (William) of Erie. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert (Shirley) Zewe and Richard (Mary Jane) Zewe; his sister, Joyce VanHoosier, all of Erie; along with many extended family members and friends.

Jim will also be fondly remembered by his dear friends, Jackie Zewe Meisel, former spouse; and his close friend and “fishing brother,” Gary Schley.

The family would like to thank the staff of Select Specialty and UPMC Hamot for their care and dedication to Jim and his family.
