James F. Winnen, Sr. Obituary (1940 - 2017)

James F. Winnen, Sr., age 77, of Wesleyville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Select Specialty Hospital. He was born in Erie on July 28, 1940, son of the late George and Virginia (Zimmerman) Winnen. Jim was a graduate of the former Tech Memorial High School and the General Electric Apprentice Program. He was employed by G.E. for over 30 years. Jim was a member of the G.E. Quarter Century Club, American Legion, Carl Neff Post #571, Wesleyville Athletic Club, Lawrence Park Athletic Club, East Erie Moose Lodge and the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and was an avid Oakland Raiders and New York Yankees fan. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Ann (Hoffman) Winnen; one grandson, Brett Steven Duckett and one great-granddaughter. Jim is survived by his three children: James F. Winnen, Jr. (Melody) of Wattsburg, Laurie E. Lawrence (Bruce) of Edinboro and Kristin A. Smith (James) of Bedford, TX; his dear companion, Bonnie Powell; seven grandchildren: Melinda Wingenbach (Stephen), Katrina Winnen, Christopher Winnen, Tootie Smith, Michael Smith, Shawn Lawrence (Kate) and Kristen Lawrence; nine great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mary Hoffman of Erie; three brothers-in-law: Tom Hoffman (Carol) of Erie, Mike Hoffman (Pat) of Shaker Heights, OH and Bob Hoffman (Kathy) of Erie and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call at the Dusckas-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 5151 Buffalo Rd. (at Hannon Rd. in Harborcreek), on Friday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend the funeral service there on Saturday at 10 a.m. The service will be conducted by Rev.
