Erie, PA
In loving memory of James R. Tobin (83), a cherished husband, devoted father, adored grandpa, great-grandpa, great-great-grandpa, uncle, brother, and friend. On February 7th, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family, he transitioned to Heaven to join his loving wife, Marilyn, just two short months after Marilyn transitioned to Heaven. After a lifetime together, Jim succumbed to a broken heart.
Jim was born on March 29, 1940, in Erie, PA to the late Roscoe and Lillian Tobin. He will be greatly missed by his siblings: Ron Tobin (late Marge), Jean Tobin Goldsby (late Ken), Dennis Tobin (Nancy), and Cheryl Tobin Baranski (Don). He was preceded in death by his brothers: Bob (late Jodie) and Rick. Jim is also survived by several nieces and nephews and had special relationships with many of them.
Jim's heartwarming journey with his soulmate, Marilyn, began at Harbor Creek High School at the age of 15, resulting in a remarkable 65-year marriage. He is survived by his four children: Laurie Miller (John), Jim Tobin (Reta), Tami Tobin (Eric), and John Tobin (Kristy); along with a legacy of 13 grandchildren: John, Mandi, Jimmy, Nicholas, Ashley, Taylor, Jake, Juice, Michael, Megan, Matthew, Justin, and GiGi; 16 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves best friends: Kenny, Doc, and Kevin with many cherished memories.
Jim spent his early years coaching baseball, racing stock cars, riding motorcycles, and serving his community as a sheriff and volunteer fireman at Brookside Fire Department performing duties beside lifelong friends. Jim took an early retirement from GE in Erie to work at the happiest place on earth, Disney World, where he worked as a transportation and operations manager. He loved every minute of working for the Mouse.
Jim loved adventures and traveling the United States from shore-to-shore. Driving Route 66 was one of his favorite vacations. He and Marilyn enjoyed many years riding motorcycles around Florida and vacationing with family and friends. He spent many days and evenings with his family boating on Lake Erie and in his later years, cruising Presque Isle and The Dock. He enjoyed summer visits to his family's camps and beach homes and also got great joy watching his kids and grandkids play ball. He also made several trips to the Caribbean and Europe. In his later years, nothing made him happier than spending time with family and friends, especially the many hours spent with his wife exploring back roads and small towns all over the country.
Jim was not only adored by his family, but by most everyone he met. He was known as a rescuer and a shoulder that many people leaned on. For his family, he was a rock that they could depend on until his last days. He never turned anyone in need away. He was loved by many.
Jim and Marilyn built a beautiful life together. They were surrounded by a tremendous amount of love. Jim/Dad/Papa/Grandpa/Brother, you will be in all of our hearts until we meet again.
