Frank V. "Chick" Ponce Obituary (1928 - 2016)

Frank V. "Chick" Ponce, age 88, of Wesleyville, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016. He was born in Irvona, PA on January 23, 1928, son of the late Vincenzo and Anna (Leone) Ponce. Frank was employed at Hammermill for over 30 years until his retirement and enjoyed the Retirees Breakfast Club. He was a life member of the Slovak, Fulton, Siebenbuerger Clubs, and American Legion Carl Neff Post 571. He was also an active volunteer for the JFK Center and a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. Frank was a veteran of the US Navy from 1944 to 1946. Frank is survived by his wife of 31 years, Phyllis Barcio Hammer Ponce; children, Toni (Don) Kelly, Vincent (Debby) Ponce, Susan Ponce, Maureen (Lynn) McCaslin, Annette (Mike) Ahrens, Clifford Ponce, and Carol (Tom) Strishock; step-children Brian (Bobbie) Hammer, Brenda (Mike) Rexford, and Scott (Estevan) Hammer; sisters, Christine "Teenie" (Joseph) Pino, Madelyn (Jack) Keith, and Angelarose "Dolly" McCoy; 15 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and his faithful companion, Tasha Marie. Besides his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his brother, Sebastian "Pat" Ponce, and son, Frank J. Ponce. Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Sunday from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm and are invited to attend a Funeral Service there on Monday at 11 am conducted by his nephew, Father Justin Pino. Military Honors will follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery by the American Legion, Carl Neff Post 571. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the JFK Senior Center, 2021 East 20th Street, Erie, PA 16510.
