Christine M. Hayes

Christine M. Hayes, age 68, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at her residence at Sunrise of Presque Isle Bay in Erie, PA after an extended illness. Chris was born August 29, 1949 in Erie. Her parents Evelyn Scherer Hayes and Robert Hayes; and sisters, Marilynn Hayes, and Connie Hayes Gullion, have all preceded her in death.

Chris was a 1967 graduate of Iroquois High School and graduated from Clarion State College in 1971 with a Bachelors in Education. Chris also earned a Masters in Education at Edinboro State University. She had a 31-yr teaching career at McDowell High School, where she taught advanced mathematics and computer science. Chris also established the inaugural McDowell women's golf team, which she coached for many years, including to several District and Sectional championships prior to her retirement in 2004.

Chris' love of golf was reflected in the many young women that she mentored and in her large circle of friends in many golf leagues around Erie. Chris also enjoyed spending time with her friends and her Springer Spaniel and Irish Setter Dogs.

Chris is survived by her brother, Thomas Hayes and wife Jackey of Plymouth, MN; and her brother-in-law, Ken Gullion of Placerville, CA. She is also survived by nephew, Kevin Hayes of Minneapolis, MN; and niece, Kate Gullion of Diamond Springs, CA.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm and are invited to attend a Prayer Service there on Wednesday at 9:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James R.C. Church at 10 am. Interment, Laurel Hill Cemetery.
