Charles Emerson “Chuck” Byerly Obituary (1933 - 2024)

Charles Emerson "Chuck" Byerly, age 91, sadly passed away at Brevillier Village on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. Born April 24, 1933 in Mayport in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, he was the oldest son of Charles and Melda (Brosius) Byerly. Chuck graduated from the Brookville School District. After several relocations, including service in the U.S. Navy, he settled in Erie over 60 years ago. He was a General Electric Apprentice Graduate and was employed there for 25 years prior to his retirement. Chuck married his beautiful bride, Kathy, in 1957 when they began their 67 years together after meeting at a square dance. He was an active member of the Lawrence Park United Methodist Church where you would find him singing in the choir and serving on multiple committees. Chuck was a faithful volunteer at Brevillier Village for over 25 years and most recently served on their Board of Directors. He was a 3rd Degree Master Mason for Life and a 32 Degree Scottish Rite for Life. Chuck was a charter member and board member of the Eastside YMCA. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club, GEER travel club, the Siebenbuerger Club and the Erie Y-Squares. Chuck was compassionate and generous to everyone. He enjoyed nature, hunting, fishing, gardening and shared those hobbies and harvests with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby and Donald Darr, and Shirley and James Livingstone. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn (Carrier) Byerly; son, Jeffrey Byerly of Reynoldsville, PA (Brenda Polatty); daughter, Rhonda Sposato of Jacksonville, FL (John); two granddaughters, Michele Seibler (Danny) and Julie Sposato; his brother, Marlin Byerly and his wife Sherry of Erie PA, as well as many nieces and nephews. We kindly thank all the people who cared for him over the years at Brevillier Village. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to them. Friends and family will gather to honor and remember Chuck on Sunday, August 25th, from 3 pm until the time of the Funeral Service there at 5 pm at the Dusckas Funeral and Cremation Services Harborcreek, 5151 Buffalo Road (at Hannon Rd. in Harborcreek Twp.).
