Angela “Tootsie” Aglio Herbstritt Tillman, age 94, of Erie, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2026 with her son and daughter by her side. She was born August 26, 1931 in Cleveland, OH, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Anastasia Algio. She was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School, class of 1950 and a member of St. Andrew’s Parish.
Angela had strong family ties. To her, family is the most important love of all. She was so proud of everyone and of each of their accomplishments. As a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was a part of our daily lives whether we were near or far, if she was unable to attend an event she looked forward to photos texted to her so that she could still take part. One of her last words spoken to her family was “I’ll always be in your hearts.”
As a young child she developed her passion for drawing and painting. As an adult Angela furthered her talent while taking classes at Edinboro State College where she became especially skilled and fond of painting in the palette knife technique. She won awards at art shows in both Erie and Florida and had several of her paintings sold to the public. Having a natural knack, she displayed her artistic talent by creating beautiful window displays in her own business and could make anything look fabulous.
Angela took a variety of dance lessons over the years at Katherine Little’s Dance Studio, her latest being a member of the Red Hot Mommas & Grandma’s Dance Group until becoming a “Florida snow bird” which allowed her to be near her family there, while enjoying the outdoor flea markets which became an active part of her life. Angela loved a good find and enjoyed the excitement of “wheeling and dealing” in whatever items may have sparked her interest. At one point, she had an extensive doll collection and she was a member and the president of a Doll Club.
She often received compliments wherever she went about her hair, nails and dress for which she was always in style even in her 90’s. Her mother nicknamed her “Tootsie” and the name was carried on throughout her life especially by her three sisters and close family and friends.
Angela was truly one-of-a-kind. She is deeply missed by all her family and she forever remains within our hearts.
Angela is survived by two children, John Herbstritt (Jennifer) and Joycelyn Wingo (David); five grandchildren, John Herbstritt II (Amber), Garrett Twiss, Marissa Avione (Michael), Shannon Kennedy (Richard) and Sheila Herbstritt (Shaun); six great-grandchildren, Emma, Beau and Zoey Herbstritt, Ashden Avione and Jordan and Brian Herbstritt; one great-great-grandchild, Connor Kennedy; and three sisters, Mildred “Bootsie” Delinski, Judith Aglio-Smith and Lark McGill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Tillman; and her ex-husband and father of her children, John “Jack” Herbstritt.
Friends will be received at the Dusckas Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Sunday, August 16th, from 11 am until the time of the Memorial Service there at 12:15 pm. Condolences may be sent to www.dusckasfuneralhomes.com.
