Alan L. Paulhamus Obituary (1945 - 2022)

Alan L. Paulhamus, LODD, age 77, of Harborcreek Township, passed away at UPMC Hamot Hospital surrounded by his family, friends, and fellow firefighters on Sunday, June 5, 2022, after a brief illness related to his duties as a Volunteer Firefighter/ EMR at the Fairfield Hose Company VFD. He was born in Williamsport, PA to the late, Violet I. Wolfe Paulhamus and Kenneth Paulhamus on April 7, 1945. A resident of Harborcreek since 1969, Al is a Vietnam veteran who served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Vesole (DD-878). He worked for and retired from The General Electric plant in Erie after 33 years as a Design Draftsman, where he took part in the design of many of the locomotives you still see today. Al spent his time building and collecting models of all types and sizes. Al spent 40 years helping others at The Fairfield Hose Company VFD serving as past Fire Captain and President. Al currently served as a board member, relief association treasurer, and was the primary operator / engineer of the ambulance. He dedicated his entire life to the service of others in the Harborcreek Twp. and surrounding communities. Al still served at the time of his death by being an organ donor. Alan is survived by his one sister, Joyce Paulhamus (Donald Shafer) of Williamsport, PA; and several nephews and nieces; his cousin, Cheryl (Lee) Lambert of Baton Rouge, LA; and his second family, the Hawryliws, Babcocks and brother and sister firefighters of the Fairfield Hose Company VFD. In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, James Lyons, who was killed in action in 1967 while serving in Vietnam; and also, his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary Jane Paulhamus. Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Thursday from 5 to 8 pm and are invited to attend a Funeral Service there on Friday at 11 am, until the time of the Fire Department Honor procession to the Lakeside Cemetery. Military Honors will be rendered by the American Legion Carl Neff Post 571.
